Faux Fur Bathrobe and How to Care Faux Fur Bathrobe

Faux fur has some advantages over real fur, so it’s important to know how to wash and care for it. Animal rights concerns aside, faux fur is more resistant to insect damage when stored and can better withstand humidity and temperature changes.

Hand washing is always the safest option for cleaning any type of faux fur item with the lowest risk of damage. Mix water and mild detergent. Use large plastic storage containers or tubs to store bulky items like coats and blankets. Fill a sink, tub, or container with cold water and 1 to 2 teaspoons of mild detergent. Completely immerse the faux fur in the detergent solution. Rinse the fur in water for 10 to 15 minutes. Be gentle. Avoid excessive stirring and wringing items. Lift the fur from the water. Gently squeeze out as much soapy water as possible. Empty the container and refill it with clean water. Rinse until no foam remains. Gently squeeze out as much excess water as possible. You can also roll the fur in a thick bath towel and press it to help remove moisture. Lay the faux fur flat on a drying rack or hang it on a padded hanger in the shower to dry. Reposition and smooth faux fur items frequently to avoid indentations. Avoid direct sunlight and heat. May take 24 to 48 hours to dry. Do not wear, use or store faux fur until it is completely dry. Once dry use a soft bristle brush to gently brush away tangled fur and lift the fibers. A wide-tooth comb can be used to loosen stubborn fur. Mix 1 teaspoon of conditioner with 2 cups of warm water in a spray bottle to smooth the fibers. Spray the fur in a small area and comb it out with a soft-bristled brush. Wipe with a clean damp cloth and allow to air dry.
