The world’s largest home textile industry event—the 2026 Frankfurt International Home and Interior Textiles Fair (hereinafter referred to as “Frankfurt Home Textiles Fair”)—recently concluded successfully. The fair attracted approximately 3,000 exhibitors from 66 countries and regions worldwide, among whom 1,057 Chinese companies garnered attention from international peers and customers for their innovative strength and diverse exhibits.
Frankfurt Home Textiles Fair is an important window into understanding industry changes and design trends. Entering the trend display area in Hall 3, soft, gradient lighting enveloped the artfully arranged textile installations, where AI-generated dynamic images complemented the physical fabrics. In the center of the hall, the immersive installation “Crowd,” designed by Spanish architect Patricia Ochira, became the focal point of the entire event. This piece, made from recycled nylon, textile waste, and bio-based materials, is constructed from flexible textile modules in shades of pink, light green, and beige, forming an arched structure that retains its natural frayed edges. This contrasts sharply with the flowing, ever-changing digital textures on the background screen. “Here, textiles are not merely decorative materials, but a medium connecting people, materials, and machines,” said Ochira.
During the exhibition, Alcova, a renowned Milan-based design platform, released its annual home textile design trends. “We are not choosing between artificial intelligence and traditional craftsmanship, but seeking a dynamic balance,” said Joseph Grimald, co-founder of Alcova. “Algorithms help break down conventional thinking, but the warmth of handcraft and creative intuition are irreplaceable.” Today, “tech artisans” are emerging, using digital tools to expand the boundaries of craftsmanship, driving the synergistic development of artificial intelligence and traditional craftsmanship, and becoming a crucial force in the future transformation of the home textile industry.
At this exhibition, Chinese companies occupied nearly 20,000 square meters of booth space, showcasing products covering the entire industry chain, including wallpaper, carpets, decorative fabrics, and sleep systems. Products such as antibacterial and anti-mite smart quilts, traditional Chinese bedding from museum brands, and pure plant-based environmentally friendly fabrics perfectly blend design and technology. Reporters at the scene observed a constant stream of visitors to the booths of several Chinese companies, with three or four groups of customers frequently visiting simultaneously. Some buyers carefully touched the fabrics to feel their texture; others focused on photographing product details; still others spread out brochures at the booths to discuss cooperation. Staff members diligently recorded customers’ needs. Many European buyers told reporters that Chinese home textile companies not only possess world-leading manufacturing capabilities but have also continuously pursued innovation and transformation in recent years, constantly improving their product competitiveness.
At the booth of Zhejiang Innovation Textile Co., Ltd., staff introduced the latest jacquard fabric patterns to several European customers: “This fabric is designed specifically for European home spaces, with optimized pattern density and color scheme.” Entering the Tianjin Yawen Carpet exhibition area, several minimalist-style carpets were displayed at the entrance. General Manager Zheng Yong told reporters, “These are our new products. We focus on showcasing the design and functionality of our products to international customers through material demonstrations and scene displays.” Wen Ting, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd., told reporters, “Chinese companies have a more international perspective in booth design and product storytelling, continuously improving their creative expression, material innovation, and sustainable development capabilities, allowing the global market to see the innovative strength of China’s home textile industry.”
In recent years, products with Chinese cultural characteristics have become increasingly popular among overseas consumers. Suzhou Taihu Snow Silk Co., Ltd., a professional silk product manufacturer, is continuously expanding its global sales network through cross-border e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and its overseas website, and has been invited to participate in international art events such as Milan Design Week and Singapore Culture Week. The company is also actively building silkworm breeding demonstration parks overseas and cooperating with international partners in mulberry planting, silkworm breeding, and cocoon processing. Cao Ling, Sales Manager of Taihu Snow Silk, said, “While strengthening and improving the traditional silk industry, we pay more attention to innovation-driven upgrading and mutually beneficial cooperation.”
The China Home Textile Industry Promotion Conference held during the exhibition attracted representatives from over 100 companies from countries and regions including Germany, France, Italy, and the United States. The China Home Textile Industry Association and related organizations introduced the latest trends, emerging channels, and innovative technologies in the Chinese home textile market. “We have cooperated with Chinese companies for many years and have witnessed their rapid development firsthand,” home furnishing buyer Miller told reporters. “Besides price and delivery capabilities, we are now paying more attention to product design logic and environmental standards. Currently, European and Chinese companies have already begun cooperation in areas such as intelligent manufacturing and green environmental protection, and we believe that future collaboration will deepen further.”
“I am very optimistic about China’s development potential and market prospects,” said Olaf Schmidt, a member of the Board of Management of Messe Frankfurt Group, in an interview. “The global home textile industry landscape is being reshaped, and in-depth cooperation between European and Chinese companies will jointly promote the industry’s development and prosperity.”
